When purchasing those ‘nutrition bars’ you can see on the wrapping they claim to be healthy and good for weight reduction or muscle building, but when you studied the label, you see a particularly long list of chemicals, sugars, processed trans fats, and other dangerous very processed ingredients.
There are limitless quantity of “health bars” and “protein bars” on the market today that you do not really know if you are getting something healthy or merely fast food in disguise?
If you would like to get a very healthy food bar, you’d need to read scrupulously the labels. When reading labels on food bars you will find that the bulk of them are pure junk… Candy bars masked thru labelling as a health food bar.
Just some days gone, I was going on a bike ride with a pal and I required a fast bar for my energy levels.
Well, since I did not have any bars on me, my mate gave me one of his additional slim fast bar.
You must know that these slim fast bars are marketed as health foods for losing weight.
These food bars are simply a poor, not funny jokes…there’s nothing even remotely nutritive about them. If you ask me, these slim fast bars are far worse for you than candy bars!
I read the label solely to see what I am putting in my body. The 1st ingredient was corn syrup! The second ingredient was sugar ( YES more sugar, I like it ), followed by hydrogenated oils ( source of dangerous trans fats ). After that, the list went on with nothing except junk like synthetic flavours, colors, real bad synthetic sweeteners, some more hydrogenated refined oils, and to wrap it up there had been some highly processed soy protein isolate ( which regardless of favored belief, processed soy isn’t healthy for you…
So not only are these “weight loss” bars nutritionally poisoning you, but it basically tasted positively horrible! It tasted like chemicals and was way too very sweetened, ( why does that not shock me, with so much sugar, corn syrup, sugar alcohols, AND synthetic sweeteners ). This could be a prime example of “over-engineering” of food.
So how does one tell between a healthy protein bar or energy bar?
A real health bar would have the following : Nuts, seeds, and fruit.
Organic Food Bars – This is basically the brand name.
Depending on which flavor, these are typically a base of organic almond butter ( or cashew butter ) with a certain sort of fruit, organic seeds, organic biosprouts ( quinoa, etc ), and some organic rice protein. Some flavours include an organic dark chocolate too.
Not only are these bars highly tasty, but I suspect they are tasty as well and have a large amount of flavors to choose between like chocolate chip, blueberry, cranberry, high protein, and more.
2. Larabars – These are even simpler in ingredients than organic food bars. Sometimes larabars are just two or three ingredients, and often raw… A mix of crushed nuts with a sort of fruit is the common combination, but they have plenty of different tastes so calories it can vary.
Often just nuts and fruit, and that is it! Straightforward IS better. Again, you will not find these at your local greengrocer, but I have found these at assorted health food markets.
When you find really healthy bars like these examples above, they make great fast nibbles whilst you are traveling or whilst you are at work.
I carry some on me just about at every point, just to make certain I have healthy options to eat whenever I need a fast break, so I am not enticed by junk food joints or fast food dispensing machines. Good luck and be certain to read those labels to make certain you are getting a health food bar and not a candy bar in disguise.
